The increasing frequency and severity of cyber attacks means it’s no longer enough to trust that you can defend against every potential attack. Statistics suggest it’s inevitable that your organisation will suffer a data breach.

According to the Scottish Public-Sector Action Plan 2017-18, all public-sector bodies and their key partners will need to take “key actions” to improve their resilience to cyber attacks.

Cyber Essentials is a world-leading, cost-effective assurance mechanism that helps companies demonstrate to their customers and other stakeholders that they have implemented the most important basic cyber security controls.

Developed by the UK government, Cyber Essentials provides five controls that all organisations can implement to achieve a baseline of cyber security. The government believes that applying these measures can significantly reduce an organisation’s vulnerability. The scheme offers a sound foundation of basic hygiene measures that all types of organisations can implement and potentially build upon, and is estimated to have helped prevent around 80% of cyber attacks.

IT Governance will be holding a free webinar on 28 February 2018 at 3:00 pm, explaining what the Cyber Essentials scheme is and the role that it plays within the Cyber Resilience Strategies for Scotland and the rest of the UK. You will also learn the expectations and deadlines for obtaining Cyber Essentials certification.
